Leagues based at one large venue
Many leagues have one or more central venues where all league matches are played. In such circumstances, it can be difficult to set up the fixtures efficiently. It is made easier it the problem is viewed as being similar the situation where pairs of teams are sharing a venue. The technique is to assign each team a home ‘venue’. Rather than give each team the same general venue, assign a more specific venue, remembering that 2 teams can be assigned to the same ‘venue’
Example.
Assume you have 8 teams in a division and you have 2 courts available each week at the local leisure centre and 2 time-slots (10.00am & 11.00am), in effect you have 4 distinct venues. Each team should be assigned to a time-slot as if that slot was their home venue. The key point to remember is that 2 teams can be assigned to each time-slot as when one is ‘home’ the other can be away. This should be viewed as the same venue sharing problem.
